A. Division of Algebraic Expressions

There are three common divisions that you may be asked to perform.

  1. Division by Monomials
  2. Division by Binomials
  3. Division by Algebraic Fractions.

1. Division by Monomials
When you divide by monomials, try to factor out the monomial in the denominator.

3x + 6ax2 + 15xa2
3x
3x + 6ax2 + 15xa2
3x
Factor 3 out of the numerator and denominator
x + 2ax2 + 5xa2
x
Factor x out of the numerator and denominator
1 + 2ax + 5a2
